It happens all the time, we are apart of a group and all of a sudden tragedy strikes leaving a negative connotation with our group. With recent events happening with ISIS and the Paris bombing, the muslim and islamic religions are under attack.
The ISIS people may be Muslim or Islamic, but not all Islamic and Muslim people are apart of ISIS. The states in the U.S. that are reusing Islamic refugee are feeding into the stereotypes. It upsets me to know that humanity has come to this. Think about the KKK for a minute. The members all were said to be devoted Christians, but you did not see Americans calling Christians terrorists. So why is Americans.
It all depends on the individuals. I back up my own point by saying ''Americans are calling Islamic and Muslim people terrorists" because not all of us are. Yes this was a terrible thing that happened and I am not supporting ISIS, but there are good people that need help and they are being denied because of a stereotype. This is not okay.
Bri,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with this post. We see far too often how stereotypes can hurt our society. What is frustrating to me is when people start to trend things like black lives matter or all lives matter, and then a situation like this strikes and all of the sudden people want to look the other way and not help. I don't know what to do to make sense of it, but it is very frustrating.
